If you're in Concord, Kannapolis, Landis or Harrisburg, you can ease up a little. All four moved to Level 1, voluntary water conservation, effective Tuesday, according to a Kannapolis release. Drought conditions have improved, and residents conserved for 24 weeks.

The basin went from Stage 2 back to Stage 1 before the cities eased up

  1. Apr. 16Catawba-Wateree basin first enters Stage 1 of the Low Inflow Protocol.
  2. May 1Basin moves to Stage 2 of the drought plan.
  3. Nov. 2Drought group announces the basin is back at Stage 1.
  4. Nov. 3Concord, Kannapolis, Landis and Harrisburg move to Level 1 voluntary conservation.

It's not back to normal yet. The region's water supply "has not yet fully returned to normal conditions," the release said. The basin's drought group moved from Stage 2 to Stage 1, lifting the mandatory restrictions activated in May. Concord and Kannapolis draw from the Catawba River basin under an agreement, so they must take corresponding measures, and so must Harrisburg and Landis.

  • Water lawns and plants early in the morning or in the evening
  • Fix dripping faucets, running toilets and plumbing leaks
  • Run only full loads of laundry and dishes
  • Mooresville: irrigate two days a week at most, Tuesdays and Saturdays

The Catawba-Wateree basin is at Stage 1 on a scale of 0 to 4
