COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Cabarrus Calendar shows many local events from Sept. 18 to Oct. 12, with hot dog sales, farmers' markets, and bridge games scheduled at churches and recreation centers in Concord and Kannapolis. A city forum, weigh-in meetings, and a homecoming concert are on the list—giving residents plenty of ways to join in the community activities.  Independent Tribune

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new restaurant named Concord Trading Post opened at 37 Union St. S in downtown Concord, serving sandwiches, wraps, and bagels from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.—local officials are set to meet with NCDOT leaders to review plans for a continuous flow intersection near Walgreens and the McGill Learning Center while Avelo Airlines extended its Concord-Padgett Regional Airport schedule through April 2026. Volunteers cleaned streets during the Sept. 13 E.L.K. sweep and Great Wolf Lodge at Concord Mills will launch its Howl-O-Ween celebration on Sept. 25.  Independent Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tom Campbell, a veteran broadcaster and columnist, proposed six changes to improve elections by moving the primary to June—shortening ballots, making election day a state holiday, ending partisan gerrymandering and runoff elections, and requiring full donor disclosure to boost fairness and lower costs.  Independent Tribune
