COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Concord will host the annual Streetlight 5K & Frolic today on Union Street South with a one-mile fun run at 7 p.m. and a 5K race at 7:30 p.m. Organizers will enforce road closures (no parking from 12 p.m. and towing starts at 2 p.m.) and restrict portions of Union Street (closed at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.) to support free festivities until 9:30 p.m.  City of Concord

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cabarrus County Schools Superintendent Dr. John Kopicki—who recently made the announcement—named new principals for Cox Mill Elementary and West Cabarrus High School. The appointments were announced to improve school leadership ahead of the next term.  Independent Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cabarrus County Sheriff Van Shaw recently announced three new deputies — Deputy Jaysten Yount, Detention Officer Joseph Shuping, and Detention Officer Chandler Bingham — to join the Sheriff’s Office.  Independent Tribune
