- ➤ Today, Mount Pleasant begins its Independence celebration at 5 p.m. with a parade, live music and fireworks while Downtown Concord hosts The Hitmen at 6 p.m., and new venues are emerging as Dive Bar opens and Concord Trading Post is set to debut with Bossy Beulah’s grand opening coming Tuesday—Ohio-based Covia Innovation Center has also opened a 20,000 square foot lab on Westmoreland Drive. - ➤ Rowan-Cabarrus Community College announced that Kelly Elvikis received the 2024-2025 Excellence in Teaching Award — an annual honor given to a full-time faculty member for outstanding performance in teaching. The award acknowledges her dedication and impact in the classroom. Independent Tribune
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Cabarrus Sheriff’s Office upgraded its free mobile app to add new functions that let residents report scams, check court dates, view a visual offender map, and access school safety details and deputy scheduling. The update also offers tools for community outreach + job recruitment to help residents quickly connect with local safety services. Cabarrus County Government
- ➤ The City of Concord is accepting applications for the 2025 Concord 101 program, a free 14-week course for residents aged 18 and older. The program offers facility tours and meetings with local leaders - registration is open online until August 3. City of Concord, North Carolina
