- ➤ Cabarrus County Sports Hall of Fame has found a new home at Cabarrus Arena with Coach EZ Smith leading work on an exhibit featuring 93 athletes and six championship teams by Dec. 6 — Concord’s Avelo Airlines began nonstop flights from Concord-Padgett Regional Airport to New York and nearly 900 residents signed a petition against a new Zaxby’s near Edison Square. A prank at Precision Eye Center led to a vulgar sign change that offended some, and the Independent Tribune clarified its mailing address is now in Hickory rather than on Church Street. - ➤ Memorial Day events across Cabarrus will honor veterans with a ceremony in Kannapolis—featuring a procession at 11:30 a.m. and a program at noon planned for Monday, May 26. Meanwhile, Concord celebrates today with the opening of McInnis pool at noon and adjustments to government and transit schedules for the holiday. Independent Tribune

- ➤ Today, Concord City Manager Lloyd Payne presented the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 budget to the Mayor and City Council, setting a total of $382,574,668 in funds that keep the property tax rate at 42 cents and support transportation, parks, affordable housing, and public safety. The Council will review the plan further at a public hearing on June 12 at 6 p.m. at City Hall—residents can learn more and review a copy at City Hall if they wish. City of Concord
