- ➤ Today, heavy traffic is expected for Rowan-Cabarrus Community College's graduation at Cabarrus Arena and Concord crews are cutting trees on Rock Hill Church Road to extend transmission lines. NC By Train will stop in Salisbury for the Cheerwine Festival on May 17, and a bridge on McCoy Road will close for repairs on May 19 — officials also urge drivers to follow the Move Over Law. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Tom Campbell reported that the NC Budget and Tax Center released a study showing a family of four in North Carolina needs a yearly income of $97,550 to cover housing, childcare, food, healthcare, transportation, taxes and savings. He noted that many families may struggle to meet this goal — expenses like housing and childcare easily outpace income — putting more households at risk of barely making ends meet. - ➤ Cannon School announced that Annalise Leck earned the valedictorian honor for the Class of 2025 after four years of strong academic work. The school also selected a salutatorian + the awards recognize the top academic achievements among the graduates. Independent Tribune
