- ➤ Friday Five in Concord notes that Cabarrus Avenue will be closed from April 21 through May 2 for bridge repairs over Irish Buffalo Creek, Percent Small Batch Brewery will open a new location at The Old Creamery with a grand opening expected in April, and Sam’s Car Wash will sell its Concord and East Innes Street sites to focus on its original Salisbury location — Midland Library is launching a poetry contest with awards on May 13 — while a local resident urged eco-friendly practices for Earth Day on April 22. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Cabarrus Citizens for Government Integrity filed a lawsuit in Superior Court on April 14 to cancel the vote that named Lamarie Austin-Stripling as Commissioner after Chris Measmer was appointed to the state Senate; a temporary restraining order issued on April 15 has kept Austin-Stripling from taking office pending a hearing. The suit claims the county meeting on April 10 broke state law by rushing the process. Independent Tribune
