🏛️ Government
Cabarrus County Commissioners voted 3 to 0 in an 11-minute meeting on Thursday morning at the Cabarrus Governmental Center in Concord to replace Chairman Chris Measmer with Lamarie Austin-Stripling, who will serve after Measmer resigns to join the State Senate (nearly 40 candidates applied for the post). The change was confirmed following a review of legal issues by the county attorney.
Cabarrus citizens filed a lawsuit on Monday against the county and its commissioners to stop Lamarie Austin-Stripling from replacing Commissioner Chris Measmer, who was named to fill a state Senate vacancy.
The suit says a fast vote on April 10 broke state law and asks the court to cancel the appointment and cover attorney fees.
