GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cabarrus County Commissioners replaced Chair Chris Measmer with Lamarie Austin-Stripling as the new county commissioner during an 11-minute meeting on Thursday morning at Cabarrus Governmental Center in Concord — the vote was taken quickly at the meeting.  Independent Tribune
  • The N.C. Department of Transportation awarded a $3.2 million contract to NJR Group, Inc. to resurface nearly seven miles of roads in Cabarrus County—work that will start next week and finish fall—and a $1.8 million contract to J.T. Russell & Sons Inc. to improve three sections in Stanly County. The agency’s DMV kiosk pilot reached 25,000 transactions in its first year and will see a tenth kiosk added in Fayetteville—helping to cut wait times for drivers.  Independent Tribune

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Cabarrus Health Alliance is celebrating 25 years of placing a dedicated nurse in every school across Cabarrus and Kannapolis to ensure that students receive daily health care and support. This milestone marks a strong partnership among local schools, government, and health officials—demonstrating a lasting commitment to student well-being.  Independent Tribune
